Tales to tell about the people in Maroon Island, a place
as vibrant and exciting as it is haunting.
Gracie’s work trip to Maroon Island takes an unexpected turn when she’s thrust into an arranged marriage with a wealthy but difficult stranger, and later finds herself caught up with a charming celebrity. With circumstances beyond her control, she navigates the colorful and unconventional city while grappling with her newfound job, husband, and in-laws.
Leif, retired pop idol with a haunting past. Saffi, a freelance translator who gets entangled in a sinister stalker’s revenge. As they cross paths, they unveil dark secrets and uncover the truth behind Leif’s haunting and grim past.
The moment their eyes met, he knew he couldn’t let her go. He was willing to risk it all, even if it means getting misunderstood by everyone.
This is the story of a sunshine girl and midnight rain guy. Together, they solve the mystery behind a haunted podcast, which points to a dark side of Jin’s past. One he’d rather forget. The only problem is that someone’s not letting him move on. Or perhaps it’s not someone but something?
Welcome to Maroon City, where the nights are as vibrant as their sunset by the beaches and piers, and where the nights let loose all the haunting and the darkness. It looks like newcomer/outsider Nyx gets a front row seat for a nighttime special.
This is not a novel, but snippets of stories that take place in Maroon Island. Some of it are horror. Others are romantic comedy.
Maroon Island is a diverse place rich with old wives’ tales, right along with supernatural beliefs and superstitions. This isn’t always evident in all the stories I’ve written, but it’s always mentioned. e.g. Brown Salts – a region in the outskirts of Maroon City – is mentioned in “The Secret Wife.” In fact, it’s where Marmoris had their music video filming and where Gracie was caught in an idol scandal!
I’ll be adding more about this place where all of my stories take place. For starters, I have published two newsletters called Maroon Dispatch. You can read them here and here.
The birth of an island (a fictional one!) and the things that make it fascinating, if not interesting.
It’s a modern place brimming with technology, and yet has a soft spot for superstitions and old wives’ tales. While the heart of the island, Maroon City, is more likely to forget its roots, the countryside folks refuse to let go of The Strangest Stranger and the ominous impact it can have when ignored.
Long story short: Maroon City is almost ready to forget and embrace the modern life, but the island as a whole doesn’t let them. Thus, the hauntings and the supernatural cases and killings.
Yes, definitely. I have started on one years ago and it’s “An Unlikely Ghost Story.” It’s a horror book that’s both dark and funny. The main characters are definitely, to quote Taylor Swift, “sunshine” and “midnight rain.”
I’ll be posting some of its chapters here soon. For free! Stay tuned.
It actually came from a notebook that someone gave me. The notebook was made of recycled paper and the cover had the theme of a beach, complete with different seashells and their names.
I was just starting college back then and was writing a fan fiction featuring an odd mix of people: Angel, and Cordelia from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, the guys from the 90s boyband 90 Degrees, the guys from Silverchair, etc.
It was a crazy mix, but I was very particular about the setting and the names of the places in my story. I noticed the cover of aforementioned notebook and starting naming places from those seashells.
The notebook I was writing on at that time was this thick, wide lined one with a maroon-colored cover. And so Maroon Island was born, all thanks to my notebooks.
You read my mind! I’ll be publishing those in here soon. Please be patient, as it might take time. Juggling work and passion projects and writing can get tricky. 😅
But I hope you keep coming back here to check things out. There’s always the newsletter to keep you updated. Sign up for it and never miss the updates!
