A light and fluffy romcom with the Korean drama feels, minus
the kimchi slaps and white truck of doom.
In this romantic comedy, Gracie is sent to Maroon Island, thinking she was there for a work-related trip. Turns out Fate has other plans for her and one of them includes getting married to a rich and not exactly easygoing stranger and then getting entangled with a popular and charming celebrity. In a predicament that’s completely out of her hands, she struggles to find her place in the vibrant and not-so-ordinary city at the heart of Maroon Island.
Here is an excerpt from Episode 9, “Wtf is wrong with this guy?” In this episode, there’s a surprise team dinner at work, served with a side of narrowly missing a scandal. No thanks to our male lead.
Gracie heard her phone ring and she looked at him incredulously. “You have my number? What are you, a stalker?”
At the same time, Theo said, “You didn’t save my number? Why wouldn’t you save an important number?”
“What makes you think your number is important to me?” Gracie blurted out.
“What?” Theo let out a laugh of disbelief. “I saved your number because in case you forget, we’re—”
“In the middle of a team dinner! Yes, sir, of course. I was just out to get some fresh air,” Gracie said loudly, the smile on her face a little too bright. Theo resisted the urge to shield his eyes.
“What are you two doing here?”
Ah. Now he understood. Theo turned and saw Marlo and George by the restaurant’s front door. They wore matching expressions of surprise and bafflement. Theo shot Marlo a glance. He was the one who asked what he and Gracie were doing here. Marlo just gave him a grin, his eyes going back and forth between him and Gracie. He gave his secretary/friend a look that would’ve frozen anyone in fear, but no. Not Marlo, who apparently found this scene amusing.
“Are you trying to sneak out?” George said, looking at Gracie, frowning disapprovingly.
Gracie opened and closed her mouth a few times, as if she was a fish out of water, before she managed to say, “No, no. I was just getting some fresh air.”
“Are you enjoying the fresh air, too, sir?” Marlo said, that grin still on his face.
“Yes, I’m having a great time here,” Theo said flatly. “And I happened to see Gracie, the new Assistant Road Manager under George. We were just chatting.”
“Isn’t she a delight?” George said, like a proud father who was unveiling his daughter before the world.
A delight? Theo coughed. Then he coughed some more, trying to choke back his laughter. This wasn’t lost on Gracie, though. She thumped him on the back once. Hard. “Did that help, sir?” She glared at him.
“Are you trying to help me or maim me?” Theo choked out.
Gracie leaned close to him and, through gritted teeth, whispered, “I would love to do nothing but maim you.”
Theo gave up. He let out a bark of laughter. This girl? A delight? “George, I would like to commend you for hiring such great talent.” He was amazed at himself that he managed to complete that sentence without rolling on the floor, laughing his lungs out.
“Uh, yes. Sure. Thank you, sir,” George said, looking as bewildered as he felt.
“Okay. I think you had one too many soju,” Marlo said. “I’ll go get the car.” With that, he hurriedly left them.
